Question 04: Will He Find Faith On The Earth?

This is the fourth post in a series where I’m sharing questions Jesus asked.

I love the kind of questions that challenge me to think differently than I might have before. In a way, it allows me to explore the answers I believe God has already planted inside me.

Most of the questions Jesus asked can be found in the Gospels: Matthew. Mark. Luke. John.

In this series, here’s what you’ll find:

  • THE QUESTION.

  • THE REFERENCE.

  • THE STORY.

  • A KIND REMINDER.

LUKE 18:1-8

Jesus is teaching his disciples through a series of parables. Stories drawn from every day life. Simple stories that aren’t so simple at all.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow:

Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up. “There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God or respect people. And a widow in that town kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’

“For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect people, yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice, so that she doesn’t wear me out by her persistent coming.’

Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. Will not God grant justice to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay helping them? I tell you that he will swiftly grant them justice.

Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

We may not know exactly what this woman was going through, but we do know that she was a widow. & in those days, in those times, she was likely without much & desperate. She didn’t have anyone to care for her or someone that could even plead on her behalf. In spite of it all, she did not give up.

While this parable is a reminder to “pray without ceasing”, it ends with a question that really made think. Perhaps we are prone to give up too soon. May be we don’t care enough. Maybe we have the wrong motives. & Maybe we do. But do we have faith? & when He comes, will He find it in me? In us?

Regardless of what I face, I don’t want to give up. I want to trust Him. His answers & his timing. I want to trust Him to do what is best.

Galatians 6:9 tells us not to get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.

In his search, will he find those living by faith regardless of what the world is doing?

Dare I say it: Try me.

LINER NOTE:

pray always & don’t lose heart
