Question 03: What Are You Looking For?

This is the third post in a series where I’m sharing questions Jesus asked.

I love the kind of questions that challenge me to think differently than I might have before. In a way, it allows me to explore the answers I believe God has already planted inside me.

Most of the questions Jesus asked can be found in the Gospels: Matthew. Mark. Luke. John.

In this series, here’s what you’ll find:

  • THE QUESTION.

  • THE REFERENCE.

  • THE STORY.

  • A KIND REMINDER.

John 1:38

We learn John the Baptizer had recently made his first announcement that The Messiah was among them. “There stands One among you whom you do not know. It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loosen.” & Then John points out Jesus with these words: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”

Two of John the Baptist’s disciples follow after Jesus as he is leaving the Jordan river. Their deep curiosity regarding the “Lamb of God” compels them to question: Who is this man who exudes such dignity, power and love? Could he be the long-awaited Messiah?

Jesus turns and asks: “what do you seek?”

From Greek to English translation, we learn this question means “to seek in order to find, to inquire, to crave or demand.”

Jesus’ question invited them to take a deep look at who or what they sought.

Were the men simply curious? Were they willing to take the time to go deeper? What was the desire of their heart?

Did they want a glorious king or were they willing to meet Jesus as He really is — The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world?

Picture him there. He turns to you & asks: What do you seek? & Why do you care? Do you really want to know Me? Have you counted the cost & committed fully to this path?

LINER NOTE:

we’re looking for Him
