How to Read More

start with 10 minutes. start with 10 pages.

Have a desire to read more? Don’t know where to start? Pick one (or a few) of these tips that resonates with you & then follow through.

PICK A TIME

Read for 10 minutes. After you’ve chosen a book, commit to reading for 10 minutes a day. Eventually, you may find yourself increasing this to 15-20 minutes. For now, set a timer. Open the book. Read until the timer goes off.

Reminder: You don’t need hours of free time to read more.

Tip: Pick up a book instead of picking up your phone.

PICK A NUMBER

Start by committing to read 10 pages a day. In time, you’re guaranteed to finish & will be on to your next book.

Think about it: 10 pages a day means = 70 pages per week = about 300 pages per month. (The average book length is 200-400 pages!)

PICK A GENRE

Know what you like. Find your genre. You’re much more likely to keep going & less likely to put the book down if it’s something you enjoy.

Tip 1: Read what you know you’ll enjoy.

Tip 2: Get Libby! Libby is a free app where you can borrow ebooks, digital audiobooks, & magazines from your public library. All you need to get started is a library card! More info on Libby here!

PICK A PLACE

Find a cozy chair or comfy spot on the couch that will enhance your experience. Get into bed 20 minutes earlier. Instead of scrolling, wind down by reading.

Tip: Keep your book on the nightstand. It’ll be there to remind you reading is an option.

PICK A PURPOSE

  1. What do you want to learn?

  2. What could further your understanding?

  3. What might entertain you?

  4. What’s your goal?

Happy reading, friends!
