That One Summer I Read Fiction

I never read fiction books. But one summer, I did.

Here they are. The fiction books I read or listened to for fun during the Summer of 2022!

I owe you one — Sophie Kinsella

A cute summer read. I had heard of Sophie Kinsella & her Shopaholic Series. I chose to start with this one because it was on the Ashley Brooke Book Club list. The title is perfect. The story, entertaining.

“I learned that failing doesn't mean you are a failure; it just means you're a human being.”

FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT: A MYSTERY — Elle cosimano

Murder. Mystery. Comedy. Panera Bread. The characters. It’s a fun read! I’m giggling now while trying to come up with the words to tell you about this one. In short, a murder mystery writer named Finlay finds herself in a murder mystery & uses the plot to write her next book. The sequel is definitely on my to be read list!

“I’d been hired to kill an enforcer for the Russian mob. Suddenly, I wasn’t sure which was scarier— the possibility that I’d be caught by the police for a murder I didn’t commit, or the likelihood I’d be murdered by Andrei Borovkov once he learned what his wife had done.”

American Royals — Katharine mcgee

American Royals II: Majesty — Katharine Mcgee

American Royals III: Rivals — Katharine Mcgee

Favorite book & series I read this summer! The first one was great. The second, I couldn’t put down. & the third,

  • Two princesses. One is to be the future Queen of America.

  • Two girls in love with the Prince. One, that will do anything to ensure she gets the crown.

“Love and trust aren't the same thing.”

You Have a Match —Emma lord

The first half of this book was slow for me. The second half was better. The only reason I kept reading it was because I wanted to find out how everything would sort itself out. How it would all end. I wasn’t a fan of the language. The good: This book had major Parent Trap vibes! I was pleased it ended well.

The Unhoneymooners — Christina Lauren

Reading this book felt like I was watching a romantic comedy! If you like the movie, The Proposal, you likely will enjoy this story. I laughed quite a bit. It’s entertaining & fun & a great summer read!

The story? A wedding party gets food poisoning so the only two who aren’t affected take advantage of the honeymoon in Maui.

“It's so exhausting pretending to hate you.”

Life’s Too Short — Abby Jimenez

Another romantic comedy. & a dog named Harry Puppins! HA. I smiled. I laughed. I cried. It highlighted our human-ness. While reading this story, I couldn’t help but think of the Psalm, “Teach us to number our days so we may develop wisdom.” I don’t think this story shows us what that means, but it did offer a reminder to live & love with the time we have. To my more discerning readers, this book is PG-13+.

“If you spend your life dwelling on the worst possible thing, when it finally happens, you've lived it twice.”

Feel free to leave a comment or share what you’re reading these days! I always appreciate a good recommendation!
