On Balance

Perhaps the tilt makes a way for change

If you're seeking “balance” in your life…

Take a pause. Is God asking you to check & balance something?

What two ideas are you comparing & wanting to bring together?

Family & business? Work & life? Eating well & enjoying treats?

I'm not sure balance occurs in a 24-hour time period.

I am a wife & a mom. I work part-time & I have dreams & on-going projects I want to finish. Of course, there's more. (& I'm sure you have ideas of your own too.)

Each area takes strategy & intention. Life rhythms & planning. Different seasons take different strategies. In the moment’s I feel “off”, I am reintroduced to my smallness, my limits, my need for help & God & a Dr. Pepper.

What I do know is that my whole life isn't going to be wrapped up in small humans. & My whole life isn't going to be wrapped up in a business. I get to do both. I get to be part of all of it. I’m grateful for it.

I've learned in times of hustle, margin comes. In those breaks, I can shift & adjust as needed. I've learned I may go slower in areas that other people may be going faster. Every one has a plate. & a pace. Neither are good. Neither are bad.

I've learned about surrender. On one occasion, I purposefully quit for 48 hours. I soon reintroduced myself to the challenge at hand. With fresh eyes, I was able to see more clearly what wasn't working & what direction I wanted to move towards.

So what can we do when we feel as though we’ve lost our footing? Whether you’re at 49/51 or 80/20…

  1. Again, is God asking you to check & balance something? Where is this need for “balance” coming from?

  2. What do you want? Everyone needs to know where they're headed in the next 2-3 years. You need to have an exciting & compelling vision. You have to be clear about what you're doing & where you're going & how you're getting there.

  3. Are there certain rhythms that are no longer serving you? Are there certain expectations that are not helping you? What would it look like for you to put it down & take a break? Or pick it up & press forward?

In short, sometimes you just keep going. Sometimes you figure out why it's hard.

a kind reminder:

If God had made the world straight up & down, we would have no seasons or change; just the sun shining straight at the equator all year round.

Instead, He chose to tilt it on His axis, making a way for strawberries, red leaves, quiet snow, raging hurricanes, spring showers, & sunflowers standing high in salute.

The tilt made a way for change.

Words by Emily P. Freeman

Perhaps the tilt we feel in our lives makes a way for change. May we allow the highs to be high & the lows to be low. May we get insight along the way & ask for help when we need it.

May we worship along the way.

If you’re going too fast to worship, you’re going too fast.

If you’re too stressed to worship, you’re too stressed.

If you’ve got too much on your plate to worship, you’ve got too much on your plate.

Take the pause. Regain your footing. Enjoy Him. & Enjoy your life.

Grateful to be on this ride with you. —
