Imagine You're Holding a Glass of Water

I heard this analogy & wanted to pass it on.

Imagine you’re holding a drinking glass filled with water in your hand.

It’s no problem to hold it.

…So you’re holding your glass & you start walking around.

5 minutes. 10 minutes. An hour goes by & you’re still holding the glass with no problem.

At about 3-4 hours, the muscles in your back start to tense.

At about 5-6 hours, your arms begin to shake. Water begins to come out.

After about 7-8 hours of holding the glass, your arms start seizing.

the lesson here:

Regardless of the content, amount, or weight in the glass — the longer we hold onto the glass, the heavier it becomes.

what I wrote down:

Something that’s easy to hold & that is held for too long will eventually become unmanageable.

—Mike Adkins said this.

my point:

The stress. The worries. The circumstances. All the junk inside of us will eventually become unmanageable when we don’t have God. — Yes, we can handle it for a little while. We’re big glass people. We can make the effort. We can even train ourselves to get stronger. We’ve been given the ability to make decisions & choose wisely. But there will come a time when our hand will begin to shake & our life will fall apart.

This is what God came to do.

He said I see your burden. I’m going to take the burden from you, so you no longer have to bear it any more. He sent His Son, Jesus, to take our sin & the weight of it away.

When life is too much for you to take on by yourself, trust in the Lord. Choose to walk with Him. Only He sustains.

sustain. v. to give strength, protection, encouragement, & comfort.

let’s agree:

  • I don’t need to know everything to know someone came to rescue me & help me.

  • I don’t have all the answers, but I’m going to trust Him.

  • I want the best for my life & for my family.

good reminders. scriptures included.

God’s sustainment is a holding together with a power that surpasses that of any human.

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3

Nothing created can sustain itself. only the creator.

He is before all things, & by him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17

GOD SUStains his children through difficult times.

God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my life. Psalm 54:4

God is my greatest source of energy.

For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will & to work [that is, strengthening, energize, & creating in you the longing & the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13

when we feel like we are falling apart & have nothing to give, we can depend on the Lord to help us.

Cast your burden on the Lord, & he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be shaken. Psalm 55:22
