How To Hear From God
3 ways to position yourself to hear God
About a year ago, I received a message similar to this:
How? How do you do it? What do you tell someone who wants to hear from God, but can’t? Who feels totally distanced from Him?
I paused & took a breath. I didn’t take this question lightly. I too had felt the weight before.
There’s no easy formula.
It’s different for everyone.
Survey your life.
Pray.
Invite Him to be near.
But of course, there’s more.
I’m a firm believer that hearing from God is possible in any season. It takes practice to see past the unknown of it all – to open your Bible & read it. It takes practice to believe He is there with you. It takes practice to remind yourself that yes, your feelings are valid, but God’s promises & truths hold so much more power — that listening is important, & who we listen to even more so.

What’s the heart of the question?
What is hearing from God for?”
That answer is simple: To be in a relationship with Him.
01. Seek Him Out
If you seek me you will find me when you seek me with your whole heart. - Jeremiah 29: 13
we can have a heart to seek after god.
What if it’s not about hearing from God, but positioning ourselves to hear from God.
02. Listen For Him
We can have a heart that is fully engaged with God.
With any relationship, when someone is speaking, we desire for them to demonstrate their attention. At times, you might be there physically, but not be fully engaged.
God speaks to us in different ways. & when he speaks to us, he wants our attention.
When we read our bible, it’s about saying:
I’m going to read this.
I’m going to sit.
I’m going to rest in this truth.
I’m going ask Him to speak to me.
I don’t want to go through the motions.
I want to have a relationship with you & a revelation from heaven.
We GET to give Him our focus & our heart. We GET to care about what He cares about.
TIP: Make sure that what you hear aligns with the Word of God.
03. Care About Him
Do not let mercy & kindness & truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you];
Bind them [securely] around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
So find favor & high esteem
In the sight of God & man.
Trust in & rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart & do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
In all your ways know & acknowledge & recognize Him,& He will make your paths straight & smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
— Proverbs 3:3-6
We Can care about what god cares about.
We can care about His Word. His Church. & His people.
ACTION STEP: Go after God’s way of life. I believe we will hear his character. If we are wise, we will listen to Him & respond. In everything you do, acknowledge & submit to Him. Position yourself in a healthy way to seek, listen, & care about Him.
Looking ahead. When we do things God’s way, He will lift us up in the right setting & moments.
IN SUMMARY:
Let the Bible be the place where God meets you & speaks to you. Let the Bible be the place where you speak back to him. The relationship: him to us & us to him.
It’s not about hearing from God, but positioning ourselves to hear from Him.
You can seek Him out.
The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up.
1 Samuel 3:19-21
I believe the Lord wants to be with us as we grow.
He wants us to have a relationship with Him.
He speaks to us through His Word (the Bible).
I believe we can position ourselves to hear from God.
I believe He wants to speak to us.
I want to be available to hear from God.
I WANT A LIFETIME OF HEARING FROM GOD.
