living. active. sharp. piercing. discerning.

I’ve been reading through the book of Hebrews & recently came across a verse I was familiar with, only this time, I gained an entirely new perspective.

THE VERSE:

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

I’ve known the Bible is living & active. But there’s more. In this particular verse we actually find 5 descriptions!

the Bible is…

1. Living

2. Active

3. sharp

4. piercing

5. discerning

It’s alive. Ready to engage. It has an edge. A point that is able to cut. It affects deeply. Sees through. & shows good judgement.

Do you see or get this imagery of surgery taking place? It’s almost as if when we read the Word of God, we are surgically dissected. We are divided. We are cut. & Cut to the bone.

Truth is, we need it to. As always, we can trust the faithful hand of God. He makes all things right in the best way.
